Oct 30, 2024 09:30 PM IST Trump has launched fresh attacks on Harris and Biden, accusing the vice president of ’running a campaign of hate.’ and blasting the president for calling Trump supporters ’garbage.’ “While I am running a campaign of positive solutions to save America, Harris is running a campaign of hate. She has spent all week comparing her political opponents to the most evil mass murderers in history. Now, on top of everything, Biden calls our supporters ’garbage.’ You can’t lead America if you don’t love the American People,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He added, “ Harris and Biden have shown they are both unfit to be President of the United States. I am proud to lead the biggest, broadest, and most important political coalition in American history. We are welcoming historic numbers of Latinos, African Americans, Asian Americans, and citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed. It is my desire to be the President of all the people”. What did Biden say? Responding to comic Hinchcliffe, who came under fire for calling Puerto Rico an ’island of garbage’ during a Trump rally during the weekend, Biden said: ’The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.’ The White House later issued a 'clarification': It said Biden was actually talking about Hinchcliffe’s words. ’The only garbage I see floating out there is (Trump's) supporter’s… his demonisation of Latinos is unconscionable, and it's un-American, the transcript reads, according to BBC. October 30, 2024 "Trump vs. Harris: Ukraine’s future could depend on America’s 2024 election.' Trump ’praised Putin’s actions as “savvy” and “genius.” He has mocked President Zelensky as “the world’s greatest salesman’ and blamed Ukraine for having ’let the war start. Trump „used his allies in Congress to hold up that aid for six months as Ukrainian forces ran out of ammunition. His running mate Vance ’has said “I don’t really care what happens to Ukraine.” Harris ’understands the difference between right and wrong in this terrible war. 'She has praised Ukraine’s leaders and people for their courage. 'She ’has done everything in her power to help Ukraine. 'She fought for Congress to approve billions of dollars in military and economic aid to produce weapons in American factories that brave Ukrainians have used to destroy half of Russia’s land army’. Trump „has repeatedly refused to say that he wants Ukraine to win. He „suggested that Ukraine should simply give in to Russia because he believes ('falsely') that Russia always wins its wars. He ”endorsed a plan to force Ukraine to surrender territory and give up NATO membership forever, promising he’ll try to end the war on what are essentially Putin’s terms' even before he’s sworn in. Harris’ supports a just end to the war that vindicates the sacrifices Ukrainians have made. She ’rightly condemned proposals for Ukraine to give up its sovereign territory or its right to join NATO. Harris ’knows that other dictatorships, including China, would be emboldened to attack their neighbors if Russia prevails'. Trump „has said - and these are his actual words - that he would “encourage” the Russians to do “whatever the hell they want” to our allies’. ’From the day Putin started this war, we have urged the Biden administration to send even more aid faster to Ukraine, and pressed members of Congress of both parties to fund that aid’. ’The ballots Americans cast on November 5 will determine if Ukrainians have bullets to fire tomorrow’. Argentina
October 30, 2024 Together with Bolivia and Chile, Argentina forms part of the so-called “Lithium Triangle”, the area hosting 53% of the world’s identified lithium resources. Argentina is the fourth largest lithium producer globally, behind Australia, Chile and China, but its reserve potential is even greater. Stirred by rising global demand, lithium projects multiply in Argentina - it has some 40 projects in preliminary stages that could reach production in the short term. Livent's - a mining company now known as Arcadium Mining - Fénix project at the Salar del Hombre Muerto salt flat in northern Argentina is currently the country’s largest lithium mine. Last year, it generated 22,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate, almost half of the 50,000 tonnes produced in the country. The US-owned company merged in early 2024 with Australia’s Allkem to create Arcadium Lithium, which was itself bought out by British-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto this October. Rio Tinto is now set to rank as the world’s third largest lithium producer. The marks left here by mining may offer a warning for the future over the industry’s environmental impact. More than 25 years of lithium extraction is said to have contributed to the drying up of a nearby river. Darkened patches of dead vegetation are the first thing that can be seen upon a dry plain where just a few years ago the Trapiche River used to flow. In 2023, Argentina exported USD 835 million of lithium, representing 20.8% of the country’s mining exports. Over 40% of this lithium is sold to China, where it is used to produce the batteries that power electric cars, but also mobile phones and computers. Atacameños del Altiplano is one of the Indigenous community groups that have organised to protect other rivers in northern Argentina from risks linked to lithium mining. A few months ago they won a victory in that battle: the Supreme Court of Catamarca ruled that lithium mining had damaged the river and halted the industry’s expansion close to another stream in the province, Los Patos, until it can be verified that it will not suffer the same fate as the Trapiche. 'The estimated timeframe for recovery to pre-development conditions is 10 years after the cessation of mining,' Livent said in its sustainability report from 2022, when it oversaw the facility. In its 2022 sustainability report, Livent reported revenues of USD 813.2 million and a gross profit of USD 366.7 million. /photo/ (Source: dialogue.earth)
