20 May 2016 Europe’s leaders blast Bill over democracy jibe: ‘The mouth belongs to Clinton, the voice belongs to Soros’. Top European leaders have blasted the Clinton's following a war of words about the commitment to democracy of both the Polish and Hungarian governments. One leading figure insisted Mr. Clinton “needs a medical test” following his remarks. Clinton upset NATO allies in a broadly unreported gaffe accusing Poland and Hungary of thinking “democracy is too much trouble” and wanting to have an “authoritarian dictatorship.” Poland’s newly elected Prime Minister Szydlo called Clinton’s words “unjustified and simply unfair”, adding: “With all due respect, and without using coarse words [Clinton] exaggerated and should apologize to us”. Mr. Clinton’s remarks came during a Hillary for President campaign rally in New Jersey this week, where he claimed: “They want (Russian President) Putin-like leadership. Just give me an authoritarian dictatorship and keep the foreigners out”. “Sound familiar?” he asked, in a broadside against GOP presumptive nominee Trump. “If someone says there is no democracy in Poland today, that means he should have a medical test,” blasted the head of Poland’s Law and Justice party Kaczynski. And his comments were echoed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who used the incident to highlight the multi-million dollar connections between the Clintons and Hungarian left-wing billionaire Soros. Mr. Orban is accusing Mr. Clinton of repeating Soros-inspired campaign lines. "Soros published his six points supporting the Muslim migration to Europe, in which he announced that at least one million Muslims should be allowed [into Europe] each year, that they must be provided a safe path and that Europe should be happy to get such a chance and shouldn’t be defending against it. He also said that it will cost a lot of money, which he’d loan.” “So, here, in Central Europe a shadow power exists, which is linked to Soros. He is one of the most important sponsors of the Democratic Party, So I have to say that although the mouth belongs to Clinton, the voice belongs to Soros. And since Hungary is where it is, I mean geographically it is where it is and wants to protect its national sovereignty and security, we are a blockade for this Soros plan in America. They will not carry it out here as long as Hungary has a government working in the national interest.” Bloomberg has reported that after an 11-year hiatus from large-scale political campaign funding, Mr. Soros has handed Mrs. Clinton around $13 million so far, “already more than his total disclosed spending in the last two presidential elections combined”. “Soros’s personal fortune stands at about $24 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index… The Open Society Foundations say they have spent some $13 billion over the past three decades.” Critics point to Mr. Soros’s funding behind anti-Polish government groups since the elections, as well as worsening Europe’s migrant crisis by funding open borders activists and “refugee” aid groups. May 20, 2016 Former President Clinton slammed Poland and Hungary in New Jersey earlier this week over their refusal to obey Brussels and Washington. Clinton's message was clear: "we liberated you and gave you back your sovereignty - now do as we say!" Said Clinton: Poland and Hungary, two countries that would not be free but for the United States and the long Cold War, have decided now that this democracy's too much trouble. They want Putin-like leadership. Just give me an authoritarian dictatorship and keep the foreigners out. Sound familiar?" He did for much of his eight years in office, Clinton got this one horribly wrong. Hungary has not "given up on democracy" when it comes to accepting refugees. In fact, Hungary has embraced more democracy than Clinton and his wife would ever tolerate from voters on the immigration issue. Earlier this month the Hungarian parliament approved a nationwide referendum on whether Hungary should accept the mandatory refugee quotas imposed by Brussels. Democracy enough? But to Clinton and Clinton (and her big backer Soros), allowing the people to vote on a fundamental issue such as refugee policy is not democratic. It's only considered democratic if the Hungarian government takes dictation from Washington and Brussels and ignores the will of the Hungarian people. 20 May, 2016 The world’s largest solar plant just torched Itself. A small fire was reported yesterday morning at the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System (ISEGS) in California, forcing a temporary shutdown of the facility. It’s now running at a third of its capacity. Located on 4,000 acres of public land in the Mojave Desert, the sprawling concentrated solar thermal plant is equipped with 173,500 heliostats — each with two mirrors — that focus sunlight on boilers located on top of three 459-foot towers. The tremendous heat created by the concentrated solar power produces steam that drives turbines to produce electricity. The plant, the largest of its kind in the world, features a gross capacity of 392 megawatts, enough to power 140,000 homes. Each of the computer-controlled solar-reflecting mirrors is about the size of a garage door. It appears that misaligned mirrors are to blame. May 18, 2016 Two nations dishonored. A Joint Statement by the American Hungarian Federation and the Polish American Congress. As representatives of the Polish and Hungarian-American communities, we are disturbed by the offensive comments made last week by former President Clinton impugning the civic character of the populations of Poland and Hungary. While campaigning in New Jersey, Clinton had stated that Poles and Hungarians were tired of democracy and wanted “authoritarian dictatorship.” Let us state here unequivocally that nothing could be farther from the truth. The current Polish and Hungarian governments were elected by significant majorities in free and fair elections, recognized as such by the international community, and they enjoy broad public support. That they are politically conservative may not be to Clinton’s or others’ taste, but this in no way diminishes their essentially democratic attributes or their standing in the international community as free and sovereign, just as the popularly elected socialist governments that preceded them. The freedoms that Poles and Hungarians enjoy today, on open display in their vibrant and diverse media cultures, have been hard earned at great human cost as Clinton must surely know. Theirs was a decades long struggle against Soviet tyranny, a struggle which helped in no small way to create the strategic climate leading to the very dissolution of the Soviet Union. The firmness displayed by the Republican administration of President Reagan and before that the Democratic administration of President Kennedy was critical to putting a finish to this tyranny. But even more critical, as Clinton fails to acknowledge, was the brave resistance of the Polish and Hungarian people themselves. It is ironic that on the 60th anniversary of the two pivotal events that sounded the impending death knell of the Sovier Union - the uprisings in Poznan, Poland and Budapest, Hungary - a former President of the United States would suggest that the heart’s desire of Poles and Hungarians had turned from freedom to renewed dictatorship. This is a grave accusation that dishonors the heritage of the nearly twelve million Polish- and Hungarian-Americans living in the United States today. But it dishonors even more those making it, regardless of who they are. May 18, 2016 A playing God. A handful of scientists around the United States are trying to do something that some people find disturbing: make embryos that are part human, part animal, known as chimeras. 'We're not trying to make a chimera just because we want to see some kind of monstrous creature," says Ross, a reproductive biologist at the University of California, Davis. "We're doing this for a biomedical purpose.' The experiments are so sensitive that the National Institutes of Health has imposed a moratorium on funding them while officials explore the ethical issues they raise. Ross demonstrated how he is trying to create a pancreas that theoretically could be transplanted into a patient with diabetes. The first step involves using new gene-editing techniques to remove the gene that pig embryos need to make a pancreas. Working under an elaborate microscope, Ross makes a small hole in the embryo's outer membrane with a laser. Next, he injects a molecule synthesized in the laboratory to home in and delete the pancreas gene inside. (In separate experiments, he has done this to sheep embryos, too.) After the embryos have had their DNA edited this way, Ross creates another hole in the membrane so he can inject human induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS for short, into the pig embryos. Like human embryonic stem cells, iPS cells can turn into any kind of cell or tissue in the body. The researchers' hope is that the human stem cells will take advantage of the void in the embryo to start forming a human pancreas. Because iPS cells can be made from any adult's skin cells, any organs they form would match the patient who needs the transplant, vastly reducing the risk that the body would reject the new organ. Ross and other scientists conducting these experiments can't know exactly where the human stem cells will go. Ross hopes they'll only grow a human pancreas. But they could go elsewhere, such as to the brain. If you have pigs with partly human brains you would have animals that might actually have consciousness like a human. It might have human-type needs. We don't really know. That possibility raises new questions about the morality of using the animals for experimentation. Another concern is that the stem cells could form human sperm and human eggs in the chimeras. If a male chimeric pig mated with a female chimeric pig, the result could be a human fetus developing in the uterus of that female chimera. Another possibility is the animals could give birth to some kind of part-human, part-pig creature. Ross is working with Belmonte from the Salk Intitute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, Calif., and Nakauchi at Stanford University. May 12, 2016 How scientists are harnessing the ice-making powers of bacteria? A type of bacteria can raise the freezing point of water. Scientists remained interested in harnessing the ability to manipulate ice. Recently, a group of researchers uncovered what they believe is the secret to its special talent, which they hope will enable them to create nanotechnologies that mimic it — ice-minus, minus the supposed risk. Pseudomonas syringae and other species of bacteria that induce ice to form around them (thus "ice-nucleating" bacteria) are found all over the world, and cause significant crop damage. Impurities in water usually prevent it from freezing until about 25 degrees Fahrenheit, but the bacteria can push the freezing point back toward 32 degrees Fahrenheit (zero degrees Celsius). The ice crystals that form in turn burst plant cell walls, letting the bacteria feed on nutrients from inside the cells. Wind carries the bacteria into the atmosphere, spreading it to new sources of food. Scientists think its ability to encourage ice growth may also play a significant role in the weather, providing nuclei for cloud formation, raindrops, and snowflakes, and could be a big part of why the Amazon is so rainy. The bacteria outperforms artificial cloud-seeding chemicals, suggesting its possible use as a rain-maker. Weidner, a bioengineer at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany, led the team of researchers who believe they've figured out how the bacteria does it. They looked at P. syringae's molecular structure through a spectrometer, which allowed them to see how the bacteria's surface interacts with water molecules. They found, the bacteria's surface forms a pattern of water-attracting (hydrophilic) and water-repelling (hydrophobic) areas. These push and pull on the water molecules they touch, creating high- and low-density zones that prompt the molecules to arrange themselves into a crystal pattern. creating tiny striped hydrophobic and–phyllic strips using an artificial polymer might be doable. Because P. syringae's molecular structure promotes ice formation, the bacteria itself doesn't have to be alive to be useful; Snowmax kills the bacteria that are used to make artificial snow to prevent possible environmental harm. May 12, 2016 President Obama is increasingly calling upon Special Operations forces to carry out so-called "small wars" across the Middle East and Africa to challenge both isis and al Qaeda in places where the U.S. maintains a footprint beyond Syria and Iraq. The current security environment's complexity is leading the Obama administration to expand the use of small teams of Special Operators in various terror hotspots - Gen. Thomas, who previously served as head of the secretive Joint Special Operations Command -- the unit that includes Navy SEALS, the Army's Delta Force and other covert Special Operations units - told. Special Ops forces are being asked to prevent both isis and al Qaeda from gaining a stronger foothold in places like Libya, Somalia and Yemen. About 50 U.S. troops operate at undisclosed locations across southern Somalia advising and assisting Somali, Kenyan and Ugandan forces in their fight against Al-Shabaab, the local al Qaeda affiliate. The U.S. headquarters for the effort remains at the airport in Mogadishu. In March, the Pentagon said it conducted a large-scale airstrike against an Al-Shabaab camp in Somalia, killing some 150 fighters there. The U.S. has sent up to 300 military personnel to Cameroon. Many are involved in drone operations there from Garoua to help provide intelligence in the region to assist local forces. There are additional drone operations based out of Niger. A U.S. military official said a major concern remains Boko Haram inside Nigeria. Recently a small number of U.S. troops went back into Yemen to help Saudi and United Arab Emirates forces in their battle against the al Qaeda affiliate there. The U.S. troops are providing intelligence assistance and advice. A small number of U.S. forces occasionally travel into Libya. The Pentagon said they were there trying to meet with locals but left the country at the request of local authorities. The current U.S. troops are trying to connect with political and security officials in Libya to get more information so if a national government is formed, the U.S. will be ready to provide additional military assistance. "The photograph will involve 100 nude women holding large mirror discs, reflecting the knowledge and wisdom of progressive women and the concept of 'Mother Nature' into and onto the convention center, cityscape and horizon of Cleveland. The philosophy of the artwork relates to the idea of the sacred feminine. By holding mirrors, we hope to suggest that women are a reflection and embodiment of nature, the sun, the sky and the land. We want to express the belief that we will rely upon the strength, intuition and wisdom of progressive and enlightened women to find our place in nature and to regain the balance within it. The mirrors communicate that we are a reflection of ourselves, each other, and of, the world that surrounds us. The woman becomes the future and the future becomes the woman."
