6 May 2015 Look out on May 8! Russian space officials warn stricken spacecraft might not burn up entirely in the atmosphere - but no one knows where it will hit. Most of is expected to Progress M-27M will burn up in the atmosphere. There is some chance fragments will hit land but risk to people is low. It was launched on April 28 with 3 tonnes of supplies for ISS astronauts. Ballistics experts are now working with Nasa and Esa to track its path. Progress M-27M suffered the major malfunction moments after launch. The Joint Space Operations Centre at the US Vandenberg Air Force in California detected 44 items of debris of unknown origin in orbit close to ailing Progress space ship. This suggests an explosion on the spacecraft during or after the launch. (Source: DailyMail): http://tinyurl.com/mqk66eg
2015. IV. 30. A Progressz típusú teherűrhajókat 1978 óta használják.
Apr 29, 2015 Russian spaceship considered total loss. Cargo ship spinning out of control, will re-enter atmosphere. The crew of the International Space Station says a Russian supply ship went into an uncontrollable spin after launch. American astronaut Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Kornienko told that flight controllers have given up trying to command the cargo carrier. The unmanned vessel began tumbling shortly after its launch from Kazakhstan on April 28. Kelly says the vehicle will fall out of orbit and re-enter the atmosphere sometime soon. He's not sure exactly when. The cargo ship contains 3 tons of food, water, fuel, clothes and equipment for the six station residents. Kelly says everything and everyone on board should be OK, even without this shipment. But he says it's still unfortunate. Kornienko calls it "a big concern."
